Off-Duty Texas Constable Kills Man During Scuffle

HOUSTON (July 9, 2014) An off-duty Harris County constable shot and killed a man early Wednesday during a scuffle at an apartment complex near Houston.

The shooting happened at around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday in northwest Harris County, a Harris County Constable’s Office spokesman said.

The deputy constable, who lives and works at the apartments, told authorities that he scuffled with the man after he resisted arrest, but the spokesman said it’s unclear why the deputy attempted to arrest the man or whether the man lived at the complex.

It's also unclear if the man had a weapon.

The man, who was shot twice in the stomach, died at a hospital.

The deputy received scrapes and injuries to his back in the scuffle.

The names of the deputy and the man he shot were not immediately released.
