Off-Duty Texas Deputy Shot During His Birthday Party

SAN ANTONIO (August 6, 2012)—An off-duty Bexar County sheriff’s deputy was shot in the hand during his 26th birthday party early Monday.

Detective Louis Antu said the shooting appears to have been accidental.

The deputy, whose name wasn’t released, was being treated at a San Antonio hospital for an injury that wasn’t believed to be life threatening.

Several guests were at the party when the detention officer was shot.

Antu says authorities are trying to determine who fired the weapon and whether alcohol was involved.

The sheriff's office did not immediately provide additional details.
