Off-Duty Texas Officer Exchanges Gunfire With Home Invaders

HOUSTON (September 27, 2013)—An off-duty Houston police officer was injured in an exchange of gunfire with two men who broke into his home after shouting "Police!" at his front door.

The officer heard the two men at around 10 p.m. Thursday as they hit his door, shouted "Police!" and then entered his home, Harris County sheriff's deputies said.

One of the men shot at the officer, hitting him in the leg.

The officer returned fire and the two men eventually fled.

The officer was hospitalized, but is expected to recover fully.

The two men remained at large Friday.
