Off-Duty Texas Police Officer Kills Would-Be Burglar

HOUSTON (March 6, 2014) An off-duty Houston police officer who was awakened by the sound of breaking glass early Thursday shot and killed one of the three burglars who attempted to break into his townhome in northern Harris County.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office did not identify the officer Thursday.

The officer used his service weapon to confront the three would-be burglars, who ran, authorities said.

The officer chased the suspects into the surrounding complex where one of them pointed a gun at him, authorities said.

The officer opened fire and wounded the burglar, who later died at a hospital.
