Off-Duty Texas Police Officer Shot Twice Early Tuesday

DALLAS (October 9, 2012)--Dallas police were looking for a gunman Tuesday after an off-duty officer who was working security at an apartment complex was shot twice.

Sr. Cpl. Officer Matthew Wagner was hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition after being wounded at around 12:30 a.m.

Dallas police Chief David Brown said Wagner was shot in the arm and the torso and is expected to recover.

Investigators say Wagner and another off-duty officer were questioning a suspicious man in a van when a struggle broke out and the man opened fire.

The second officer, who was unharmed, put Wagner into a patrol car and drove the wounded officer to a hospital.

Police have recovered a gun they think was used in the shooting and have secured the van.

Tuesday afternoon police announced that a person of interest was detained for questioning, but further details were not immediately released.
