Off-Duty Texas Reserve Deputy Kills Man In Domestic Dispute

HOUSTON (November 2, 2012)--An off-duty reserve law enforcement officer shot and killed a man in a domestic dispute involving some neighbors, Houston police said Friday.

Corey Hayes, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Harris County reserve deputy constable who opened fire Thursday night was not hurt.

Her name wasn't immediately released.

Hayes got into a disturbance with his mother and grandmother, who live near the deputy constable, police said.

The two women fled to the officer's apartment and entered as the deputy constable was trying to leave.

Police said Hayes kicked in the front door.

The officer shot him when she identified herself and he refused to stop.

The deputy constable is on administrative leave during the police and constable's office investigation.
