BEAUMONT (June 25, 2014) A Beaumont police officer was on administrative leave Wednesday after shooting and killing an 80-year-old man who refused to drop his rifle after a woman reported that her landlord had fired at her.
Police Wednesday identified the man as Stanley Leger, a Beaumont taxidermist.
A woman called 911 Tuesday night and reported that a man fired at her from across the street while she was outside a residence, police Sgt. Rob Flores Jr. said.
She wasn't hurt.
Police say Leger was carrying a rifle as officers arrived and refused to drop the weapon.
Leger was shot after he pointed the rifle at an officer, who was not injured.
Leger died at a Beaumont hospital.
Flores had no information on whether the woman and Leger had a dispute.
