Official IDs Immigrants Killed When Shots Fired From Texas DPS Helicopter

McALLEN (October 29, 2012)--A Guatemalan diplomat has released the names of two immigrants who died last week when shots were fired from a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter at their smuggler's truck near the Mexican border.

Alba Caceres, Guatemala's consul in McAllen, identified the two who died as Marco Antonio Castro and Jose Leonardo Coj Cumar, of San Martin Jilotepeque, about an hour outside the capital.

Caceres expressed her government's indignation and made a formal request for a thorough investigation to the Texas Rangers on Friday.

She was trying to interview survivors.

She said she didn't know when the bodies would be released to the families, but said it could be delayed by the investigation.

A trooper fired from a Department of Public Safety helicopter Thursday afternoon in an attempt to stop a fleeing smuggler's truck that was suspected of carrying drugs.
