MCGREGOR (November 11, 2012)-One man died, a woman was injured and another man was in county jail after a fight early Sunday morning in a McGregor restaurant parking lot turned into a violent stabbing.

Police officers arrived just after 12:10 a.m. Sunday at Doc's Saloon on Main Street to find Charles Darrell McKenzie, 49, of McGregor, suffering from several stab wounds, according to McGregor police Chief Steve Foster.

An East Texas Medical Center ambulance took McKenzie to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m., Foster said.

McLennan County Justice of the Peace Kristi DeCluitt ordered McKenzie's body taken to Southwest Institute of Forensic Science, in Dallas, for an autopsy.

Foster said witnesses told officers the suspect in the stabbing had left the scene.

A short time later, officers learned a man and a woman were in the parking lot at the police station and one of them had suffered stab wounds, Foster said.

Foster said two officers returned to the police station to find Paula Rios, 32, and Augustine Jimenez Gurrero, 33, both also of McGregor, at the police station and discovered Rios had suffered stab wounds as well.

While officers were administering first aid to Rios, they learned Gurrero, who is identified as Augustine Jimenez in online McLennan County Jail records, had been identified as the suspect in McKenzie's stabbing and took him into custody.

Rios was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple for treatment.

A hospital supervisor told News 10 Sunday night that she was in stable condition.

Witnesses told police McKenzie was stabbed after he tried to defuse an argument between a man and a woman.

Gurrero was ordered held in the McLennan County Jail in lieu of a $1 million bond, charged with murder, jail records showed Sunday afternoon.

Texas Rangers are now working with the McGregor Police Department as they move forward in this investigation.
