Origin Of Body Parts Found In Texas Landfill May Remain A Mystery

BEAUMONT (October 14, 2012)--The origin of body parts found two weeks ago in landfill in Port Arthur may never be known, officials say.

Nine human ankles were found in biohazard bags Sept. 28, Port Arthur landfill manager Micheal Tentrup said.

But only one biomedical company contracts with the landfill and BioMedical Waste Solutions President Wes Sonnier says his company isn't the source of the ankles.

He says BioMedical Waste is only licensed to handle medical supplies.

The Beaumont Enterprise reported the company is not licensed to handle body parts.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said body parts should be incinerated, buried or treated with chemicals or steam, or both, and then dropped off at a sanitary landfill.

Port Arthur police initially said the parts were believed to be from medical procedures such as amputations.
