Stretch Of Texas Interstate Reopens After Bridge Collapse

BIG SPRING (November 8, 2013) A stretch of Interstate 20 in West Texas that was closed after an overpass collapsed as the result of an accident has been reopened.

The closed section of the highway just west of Big Spring was reopened to traffic Thursday afternoon.

The Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Darah Waldrip said Friday that drivers who used the overpass will be routed to a nearby bridge while a new overpass is built.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says Tuesday night's accident involved two 18-wheelers.

One truck hit a guard rail, the driver over-corrected and the big rig smashed into the support beams, causing a section of overpass to fall.

A second truck then plowed into the debris on I-20.

Investigators say neither driver was injured.
