AUSTIN (March 7, 2013)—Pickup trucks top the Texas Department of Public Safety’s list of the top targets for vehicle thieves in Texas in 2012.
Ford pickups topped the list of the most common targets for thieves followed by Chevrolet and Dodge trucks.
Thieves steal vehicles for a range of reasons and most of the stolen vehicles are several years old, the Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority says.
Vehicle theft cost Texans more than $621 million in 2011, the authority says.
