Pilot Dies In Fiery Crash Of Small Plane In Texas

MARION (June 28, 2013)--A pilot was been killed in the fiery crash of a small plane less than a mile from a private airstrip near Marion in South Texas, authorities said.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the pilot was not in contact with air traffic controllers at the time of the crash Thursday night.

FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said Friday that the crash happened during a landing attempt near Zuehl Airport.

The pilot was alone in the single-engine experimental RV-7A plane at the time of the crash, which happened in an area about 20 miles northeast of San Antonio.

Officials are trying to determine what caused the crash.

The pilot’s name wasn’t immediately released.
