LUBBOCK, Texas (July 16, 2012)--Lubbock police have arrested two men in the murder of a doctor who was found shot to death in his home and one of the men in custody is also a doctor.
Dr. Thomas Michael Dixon is a plastic surgeon with a practice in Amarillo and police say he likely knew the victim, Dr. Joseph Sonnier III, but they declined to give details.
Police also arrested David Neal Shepard.
Documents in an arrest warrant indicate that Dixon arranged to have Sonnier killed because Sonnier was dating Dixon's ex-girlfriend.
An affidavit says Shepard's roommate told police that Shepard confessed to shooting Sonnier last Wednesday in his Lubbock home.
Police said at a news conference Monday that Dixon paid Shepard three bars of silver worth a total of $9,000.
Sonnier, the chief pathologist for Covenant Health System in Lubbock, was found dead Thursday after landscapers discovered a broken window at the house.
