Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: Saturday, rain stays with us, but should taper off by Sunday, the drier of the two days.
GALVESTON (May 28, 2014) A Galveston woman was jailed Wednesday in lieu of bonds totaling $160,000 after police say she drove a car in which her infant son was riding into a bayou.
Latonya Kirven is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.
Witnesses told officers they saw Kirven argue with a 75-year-old man and then strike him with her car, Galveston Police Chief Henry Porretto said.
A short time later, police got calls about a vehicle entering the water near a boat ramp, he said.
A man who swam into the bayou to rescue the baby says he and others tried to help the woman, but she resisted.
