WACO (August 29, 2013)—Officers raided two Baylor-area residences Wednesday, arrested four men, and seized marijuana, pills, cash, a Cadillac and a BMW after a three month investigation by McGregor and Lorena police into a pot ring that targeted students.
Three of the four men arrested are students, police said Thursday, but that could not be immediately confirmed.
“The investigation uncovered the monthly distribution of approximately $30,000 to $40,000.00 worth of marijuana targeting Baylor students as the organization's customer base,” McGregor police said in a press release Thursday.
Local officers and Drug Enforcement Administration agents served the first warrant Wednesday at 1902 South 12th St. in Waco, and recovered two weapons, two-and-a-half pounds of marijuana, prescription pills and about $7,600 in cash.
Agents also seized a 2007 Cadillac STS sedan pending a forfeiture investigation, authorities said Thursday.
Richard Ostheimer, 32, Sebastian Lofaro, 21, and Alexander Leake, 21, were arrested at the scene, police said.
Ostheimer remained in the McLennan County Jail Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $100,000 charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance.
Leake was held in lieu of bonds totaling $110,000, charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and money laundering.
Lofaro was charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and was released after posting a $2,500 bond.
Later Wednesday, the officers, in cooperation with Baylor police, served a second search warrant at 1814 South 11th Street and recovered marijuana packaging material, an A-15 223-caliber assault weapon and a total of about $4,800 in cash.
Agents seized a 2007 BMW, which will also be subject to possible forfeiture.
Solanga Weeraratne, 21, was arrested.
He was jailed Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $6,000, charged with money laundering and possession of 2 ounces or less of marijuana.
More arrests are possible, police said Thursday.
