UHLAND (August 9, 2012)—Marcelino Aguirre, who authorities say claimed to be a former Mexican police officer, was found with dozens of high-powered guns, tactical gear and 4,000 rounds of ammunition in his rural Texas home.
Federal prosecutors said Aguirre told investigators he was involved with the Zetas cartel and that the weapons were bound for Mexico.
In a statement Thursday, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said Aguirre, 39, also told detectives he was a former Mexican policeman.
Aguirre was arrested last week at his home near San Marcos and charged with multiple unlawful possession violations by a convicted felon.
Investigators say they found 56 firearms, cocaine and $45,000 in cash inside the home.
Aguirre's bond is set at $270,000.
