BELLMEAD (September 13, 2012)-Bellmead police Thursday released the identity of a man they've been searching for since Tuesday night.

Bellmead police Detective Michael Miller said officers are searching for David Jason Smith, 42, who eluded a Department of Public Safety trooper Tuesday night.

Officers searched for him throughout the day Wednesday.

Miller said Smith is white, 6-feet tall, weighs 257 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman said officers set up a perimeter at around 10 p.m. Tuesday in an area between Airbase Road and Clover Leaf Road, along Meyers Lane, in an effort to find Smith who’s named in a warrant stemming from an earlier traffic stop that led to a short chase during which the driver escaped.

Miller said Thursday that as many as two more warrants naming Smith are being processed.
