The accident occurred at the intersection of Clairidge Avenue and Canterdury Dr. in Killeen just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police believe a 2004 Chevy Tahoe was traveling west on Clairidge when it hit a telephone pole and then a fence before crashing into the side of a home.

The impact of the crash knocked a hole into the side of the house and caused the SUV to flip over in the yard.

The driver, Roy Lee Brown, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One person was inside the home at the time of the accident, but was not hurt.

That person was unable to stay in the home overnight Tuesday, however.

The same Chevy Tahoe was reported to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident just minutes earlier at the intersection of Jasper and Fort Hood Street, and the driver evidently was fleeing at the time of the second crash, police said.

There were no reported injuries in the hit-and-run.

The cause of the deadly crash is under investigation, but Killeen Police report initial evidence on the scene suggests it was likely caused by excessive speed.
