Police Kill Gunman After 4-Hour Standoff In Texas Neighborhood

HOUSTON (November 5, 2012)--Houston police shot and killed a gunman in a four-hour standoff that began with an argument about a dog, authorities said.

Sunday afternoon police received a 911 call about an armed man who thought a neighbor had taken his dog.

Police say the armed man barricaded himself in a home and fired several shots inside the residence.

Investigators say the man fired into a police armored car, and then pointed a laser-sighted gun at an officer, at which point a second officer shot and killed the gunman to end the standoff.

The name of the gunman hasn't been released.

Police recovered several guns from his home.

Both officers have been placed on paid leave pending a review of the incident.

Houston police did not immediately provide additional details on the dog.
