Police Shoot, Kill Texas Man Who Was Holding 1-Year-Old

HOUSTON (February 14, 2013)--Houston police officers shot and killed a man who threatened his 1-year-old son with a butcher knife and refused to surrender while smoking crack cocaine.

The child was not injured Wednesday night.

Police didn't immediately release the name of the father or the officer who fired during the standoff at an apartment.

Neighbors called police Wednesday to report that a man and a woman were fighting.

Police forced their way into the unit and the woman, who was holding the boy, put the child down and ran outside.

The man picked up his son while smoking crack from a pipe, Police spokesman John Cannon said.

Cannon said an officer fired when the father put the knife to the child's throat.

Police say the boy's mother was at the complex but was not present during the argument.
