Police Shoot Suspected Shoplifter In Parking Lot Of Texas College

ARLINGTON (January 24, 2013)--A man suspected of stealing from a department store Thursday led police on a foot chase to a nearby community college parking lot, where he struggled with officers before he was shot to death.

The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot of the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus in southeastern Arlington.

Arlington police Sgt. Christopher Cook said officers from neighboring Grand Prairie chased the man from the nearby store to the lot, where the struggle occurred.

Cook said the Grand Prairie officer who shot the man feared for his life and those of his fellow officers involved in the struggle, but he provided no other details.

He said Arlington police are conducting the criminal investigation, while Grand Prairie police are performing the internal administrative investigation.
