HEWITT (April 16, 2013)—A 40-year-old man was in custody late Tuesday morning after a standoff that started as officers tried to serve an arrest warrant and he fled and barricaded himself inside his girlfriend’s house.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that two people were taken into custody, but authorities later said the man’s girlfriend was not arrested.

Richard Mann was wanted for a parole violation and was named in a number of minor warrants.

Police were attempting to arrest the man at around 7:45 a.m. when he barricaded himself in the house on Spring Valley Road in Hewitt.

He was taken into custody shortly before 11 a.m. and was held without bond on the outstanding warrant Tuesday afternoon.

"He finally came out...surrendered to the officers (and) we took him into custody. It was a very good incident,” said Hewitt police Chief Jim Devlin.

“At the end of the day it was one in which no one got hurt everyone safe and it was a good arrest,” he said.

Hewitt and Woodway officers and McLennan County deputies were involved in the standoff.
