KILLEEN (January 16, 2013)—Robin Ann Hetherington, 56, whose body was found in December in a fire-damaged house in Killeen, committed a fiery suicide, police said Wednesday.
“Evidence at and taken from the scene, and the history at the residence, indicates a flammable liquid was poured in the interior of the structure and ignited,” police said in a brief update Wednesday.
“The fire was intentionally set and determined to have been used as a means of suicide.”
A Killeen police officer who was patrolling the area on Dec. 18, found the body after he heard a fire alarm coming from inside the home at 2709 Taft St. and went to investigate.
As he looked in a window he saw fire damage and the woman's body lying on the floor.
The audible fire alarm likely is the only reason police found the woman's body as quickly as they did.
Information released by the Killeen fire marshal showed that by the time officers were alerted to the incident the fire was out and there was no more smoke inside the home.
The fire, which evidently was started in the living room, caused smoke damage throughout the house and left a film of black soot on floors, walls and ceilings.
