WACO (February 13, 2012)— Police Monday identified the man who died on Feb. 3 in a fiery two-vehicle crash in the 3600 block of West Waco Drive in Waco as Isidro Pech Que, 40, of Mexico.
His family was notified with the assistance of the Mexican Consulate in Austin, police said Monday.
Que was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck that was rear-ended by a Mercury Mountaineer SUV, which was traveling at speeds as high as 130 miles per hour before the deadly crash, police said.
The westbound pickup burst into flames when it was struck at what police said was a high rate of speed.
The two women who were in the SUV were taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of what police said were minor injuries.
Police identified the driver of the SUV as Miranda Monique Campbell, 28, and the passenger as Cindy Ann Murray, 39, both of Waco.
Campbell, who also goes by the name Miranda Jones, was arrested several days before the accident on outstanding traffic warrants and was released the day before the crash from the McLennan County Jail, authorities said.
She and Murray were both treated and later released from a local hospital.
Investigators have been trying to piece together the bizarre sequence of events that led up to the fatal crash, starting with a report of a disturbance at around 6:15 a.m. Feb. 3 in the 400 block of East Waco Drive in which the woman who was driving the SUV at the time of the crash may have been involved.
By the time officers arrived, those involved in the disturbance were gone, but two minutes later the disturbance resumed in the lobby of the Waco police building at North 4th and Waco Drive.
The woman was acting in a belligerent manner, but after officers interviewed her, she was allowed to leave and a friend volunteered to drive her home.
Earlier reports indicated the woman was demanding water, which she was refused.
Between 6:31 a.m. and the time of the crash at 6:38 a.m., the SUV stopped in the area of 1800 West Waco Dr. and again in the area of North 23rd St. and West Waco Drive.
In both cases, officers checked with the occupants and then let them go, police said.
At some point the two women evidently switched places and the woman involved in the earlier disturbances was behind the wheel at the time of the deadly crash, which occurred as the women drove west on Waco Drive from North 23rd Street, police said.
Officers were not following the SUV or attempting to stop it, police said.
No arrests had been made in the case.
