LUBBOCK, Texas (July 21, 2012)—Most of Lubbock was without power for at least two hours early Saturday because of a failure at a plant that provides electricity, the city said.
Public information officer Bridget Faulkenberry said the outages occurred at around 2:15 a.m. and lasted for at least two hours, affecting about 75 percent of the city.
She said power throughout the city was restored by dawn Saturday.
Faulkenberry says a device that protects the system from lightning malfunctioned, though it wasn't immediately clear why.
There was no bad weather in the area overnight.
The city Facebook page announced that a boil water order was in effect Saturday because the outage caused low water pressure.
Many traffic lights also were inoperable, which forced police to call in additional patrol units to direct traffic.
