Prom Goes On For Students Displaced By Texas Wildfire

Individuals and businesses stepped up to donate formals, tuxedos and flowers to ensure that there will be a prom for students displaced by a Texas wildfire that destroyed more than 20 homes.

FRITCH (May 17, 2014) Individuals and businesses stepped up to help after a massive wildfire in the Texas Panhandle that destroyed about 225 homes.

More than 40 students in the Sanford-Fritch Independent School District lost their homes in the fire, which broke out last Sunday about 30 miles northeast of Amarillo.

The Sanford-Fritch High School prom is Saturday night and as word spread, individuals and businesses stepped up, donating formals, tuxedos and flowers.

Superintendent Jim McClellan four or five girls needed prom dresses, but more than 100 were donated.

Individuals and businesses also donated tuxedos and flowers for about a dozen prom-bound students.
