AUSTIN (September 25, 2012)--A Hindu guru who’s been a fugitive since he was convicted of molesting two teenagers at his Texas ashram is likely in India, court documents show.
Prakashanand Saraswati, 83, was evidently able to flee before he was sentenced with the help of followers whom federal prosecutors are now investigating.
A Hays County jury convicted the guru in March 2011 on 20 counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.
He skipped sentencing after the trial while free on a $1 million bond and he hasn't been seen since.
Newly filed court documents obtained by the Austin American Statesman show that the guru evidently slipped into Mexico two days after his conviction and then flew to India in November using a fake passport.
