WACO (February 9, 2013)--The Carver Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative is starting a campaign to install more lights on poorly lit streets.

"One it helps better the infrastructure of the neighborhood, and two its a crime deterrent as well," Britt Duke, NRI Program Manager.

Committee members created the Light Up Carver campaign to bring awareness to the lighting issue in the Carver Neighborhood.

They started a petition and need signatures from residents so the city can install more lights.

Beautification and Infrastructure Committee leader Shirley Langston says there are lights at some intersections but lights are needed at points along long streets and areas with heavy foot traffic.

The NRI was formed when a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the Carver Neighborhood Association.

They developed an action plan back in November to focus on areas to improve the Carver Community.

"We want to see our neighborhood become a place that is turned inside out," Langston said. "We want it to be a place where all income levels will want to come and live. We want it to be safe, we want businesses and we want it to be beautiful."
