WACO (February 28, 20140 Detectives are investigating several thefts and burglaries at a Waco gym where a retired sheriff’s deputy’s gun was stolen Thursday from a padlocked locker, and they’re hoping someone has information about them, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Friday.

The retired McLennan County Sheriff's deputy returned to the locker room after a workout Thursday at Gold’s Gym on West Waco Drive to find that someone had broken into his locker and stolen his firearm.

He told officers he left the weapon along with his street clothes inside the locker, which he secured with a padlock before working out, Swanton said.

When he returned to dress, he discovered that the padlock and the gun were gone.

The incident wasn’t isolated, Swanton said.

“There have been several thefts and burglaries in the Gold’s Gym and also the parking lot area,” he said.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have observed suspicious behavior in the gym or in the parking lot to call Detective Head at (254) 750-3656 or Waco Crime Stoppers at (254) 753-HELP.
