TYLER (January 14, 2013)—Bobby Nichols, 76, a retired dentist, went on trial Monday in Tyler in the shooting death of his 71-year-old wife.

He's accused of murdering wife Rosalind Nichols, his wife of 26 years.

Bobby Nichols has said he "screwed up" when he got home the night of June 29 after drinking with his friends.

He has said he doesn't remember details of the night and misses his wife, but has acknowledged shooting her in their East Texas home.

If convicted, Nichols could be sentenced to as much as life in prison.

He remains free on $750,000 bond.
