Retired Texas Deputy Drowns After Falling From Boat

NAVASOTA (July 20 2014) Retired Harris County Deputy Sheriff Donald Ray McBroom 65, of Tomball, drowned after falling from a boat while fishing, authorities said.

McBroom was fishing early Saturday on Yarboro Lake not far from Navasota.

He returned to a pier at the lake’s fishing club to pick up additional equipment, tried to step out of the boat before it was secured, missed the landing and fell into the water, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office said.

It’s not clear how long he was in the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
