Fugitive Arrested At Central Texas Apartment Complex

BRYAN (March 10, 2014) Fugitive convicted sex offender Sammy Lee Nickerson, 52, who authorities said had ties to Bryan, College Station, Hearne and Navasota, was in custody Monday.

Nickerson was arrested without incident at an apartment complex in Bryan, the Department of Public Safety said Monday.

A tip led authorities to the complex.

The tipster will receive a $5,000 reward.

Nickerson was taken into custody Thursday, the DPS said Monday.

Nickerson was on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list.

His criminal history includes aggravated sexual assault of a child, burglary, larceny and evading arrest, the DPS said.

Nickerson was most recently released from prison in January 2013 and was last seen in August 2013 in Hearne.

He was named in a Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles warrant issued on Aug. 27, 2013 and on a warrant charging failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements issued on Oct. 15, 2013.

He was convicted in 1982 in Montgomery County of aggravated rape of a child in a case involving a 14-year-old girl, the DPS said.
