Rider Dies At Local Hospital After Motorcycle Hits Car

KILLEEN (July 14, 2013)—Police Sunday identified the man who died at a local hospital after his motorcycle slammed into a car whose driver was pulling into a restaurant parking lot as Simon Nevarez, 37.

Nevarez died at Carl R. Darnall Army Community Hospital to which he was taken after the accident, which happened just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Stan Schlueter Loop and South Fort Hood Road.

Nevarez was riding a Honda motorcycle west on Stan Schlueter Loop when an eastbound Mitsubishi Eclipse, whose driver was turning left into the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant, pulled into his path.

The motorcycle struck the Eclipse, which in turn hit a Jeep Compass whose driver was pulling out of the restaurant’s parking lot.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Eclipse began to turn after the driver of a westbound Ford F-250 pickup truck stopped and motioned the driver to cross over, police said Sunday.

Nevarez was taken to Darnall where he died about 45 minutes after the crash, police said.
