SUV Jammed With Immigrants Plunges Into Texas Stock Tank; 3 Drown

POTH (February 6, 2013)--Three young men died early Wednesday after a sport utility vehicle jammed with at least 13 suspected illegal immigrants plunged into a South Texas stock tank during a police chase.

The incident happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday near the town of Poth about 35 miles southeast of San Antonio.

The chase started after a Wilson County deputy tried to stop the SUV because a headlight was out, Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt said.

The SUV veered off the road and continued off-road, smashing through several fences, before it plunged into the pond.

Three men were pulled dead from the water.

Tackitt said the 10 survivors, including one woman, are believed to be from Guatemala and are in federal custody.

The suspected driver was among the survivors.
