TEMPLE (September 23, 2012)—A 5-month-old infant and a 28-year-old woman were both in critical condition Sunday after the SUV in which they were riding overturned after the driver swerved to avoid debris on Interstate 35 in Temple.

The accident happened at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday on the southbound interstate south of Midway Drive.

The SUV overturned after the driver swerved to avoid debris in the roadway, police said Sunday.

The infant was ejected and landed on the shoulder of the highway.

A passerby took the infant to Scott & White Children’s Hospital, police said.

The woman, who was driving the SUV, was seriously injured when her arm ended up trapped between the vehicle and the roadway.

She was taken to Scott & White Hospital by ambulance.

A 29-year-old man who was a passenger in the SUV was also taken to Scott & White.

The names of the victims weren’t released Sunday.
