LONGVIEW (September 19, 2013)—A Longview Independent School District school bus driver who had been on the job for less than a month has been fired after dumping about 20 unruly students at a busy intersection on Sept. 13.
The driver was fired Wednesday.
Her name wasn't immediately released.
The incident happened as children from Forest Park Middle School were being transported home.
Longview ISD spokesman Adam Holland says district policy requires students to be dropped at assigned areas.
Holland says the driver could have used a radio on the vehicle to call dispatchers for assistance, such as contacting parents.
He said another option would have been to drive the vehicle and the children back to the bus barn.
Holland says a substitute driver now handles the route.
