LACY LAKEVIEW (December 21, 2012)--Law enforcement officers from several different agencies were posted on campuses at the Connally Independent School District Friday morning in an effort to ensure security.
A news release issued by the district said that because of the unfortunate incidents at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut a week ago, "some have chosen to use social media to spread rumors about possible school violence (Friday).”
The release went on to say because of those rumors, administrators at Connally ISD increased the amount of security presence around its campuses on Friday.
The release also said authorities had advised against any cancellation of school.
Lacy Lakeview police Chief John Truehitt told News 10 his officers, along with police from Texas State Technical Institute, deputies from McLennan County Sheriff's Office and troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety had been asked to assist the school district police officers.
"It was a combined law enforcement effort to assist," Truehitt said.
The ISD statement said "Connally ISD is working with our police department and local police agencies to maintain safe and secure campuses.
"Please be assured Connally ISD has added the appropriate measures to make sure our students remain safe."
A spokesman for the district said there was no specific threat against any of the CISD campuses.
