HOUSTON (July 12, 2014) Hundreds of emergency responders marched in a procession Saturday to honor a veteran Houston firefighter who died this week while battling a house fire.
The procession made its way to a memorial service Saturday morning in The Woodlands for Daniel Groover, 46, who died Wednesday morning when he collapsed after responding to a fire in a vacant two-story house in Kingwood.
Fellow firefighters found him inside the structure on the second floor.
Speakers at the service remembered Groover Saturday as an incredible cook who had a dry-wit sense of humor.
Houston fire investigators, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health and a team from the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating his death.
Groover, a 21-year veteran of the fire department, is survived by his wife and three adult sons.
