EL PASO (September 4, 2012)--Emergency officials in West Texas rescued seven hikers in the Franklin Mountains after several of them were overcome by heat.
The El Paso Fire Department says four people were treated for heat exhaustion they suffered during the Labor Day outing.
Authorities say some people at a picnic set off on a trail around 9 a.m. Monday but did not have sufficient water.
Two teenagers in the group sought help about five hours later, and led emergency personnel to the seven other hikers.
Fire department officials said two women and a child were in stable condition when flown to a hospital.
Another child was transported by ambulance.
Their names and details on their conditions weren't immediately available Tuesday.
Temperatures were in the 90s Monday in the El Paso area.
