WACO (April 11, 2013)—Christopher Donaldson, 35, whom McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara and several of his deputies disarmed Wednesday at a local restaurant, was jailed Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $30,000.
Donaldson is charged with aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon, assault-family violence.
He’s held without bond on a motion to revoke probation.
Deputies began looking for Donaldson Wednesday, after receiving a report that a man who said he wanted to kill himself in front of his children was headed to Bosqueville Elementary School.
Deputies found the man’s abandoned vehicle near the intersection of Lone Star Drive and China Spring Highway and learned that a passerby had given the man a ride to the Bush’s Chicken restaurant at Baylor Camp Road and China Spring Highway, authorities said.
McNamara, Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon, Deputy R. Kirkland, and several other deputies found the man inside the restaurant.
When he saw them, he pulled out a pistol and put it to the woman’s head, using her as a shield, authorities said.
McNamara was able to disarm the man after a brief struggle, authorities said.
"It was a very tense," McNamara said.
"It was a very dangerous situation, it was a hostage situation, we were put in a position that we didn't want to be in obviously where we may have to take someone's life," he said.
