KILLEEN (January 16, 2013)--A 20-year-old man who was shot in the head Wednesday afternoon in a house near a Killeen high school was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Officers who were sent to the house in the 3300 block of Pebble Drive in response to a report of the shooting just after 1:15 p.m. Wednesday found three men, one of whom with what they called an extremely critical gunshot wound to the head.

Officers were interviewing the other two men, who police said are 22 and 24, but no further details were released.

Police said the shooting victim was a Fort Hood soldier, but a post spokesman later said the man may have been a former soldier, but was not currently serving.

It was also not clear whether either of the two other men is a soldier, but all three men were living in the house, police said.

The house is near Ellison High School, whose parking lot was used as a landing zone for the medical helicopter.

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said a handgun was recovered at the scene.

Smith said initial investigation revealed the shooting may have been accidental.
