Shooting At Texas Family Gathering Leaves 2 Dead

ALTON (November 19, 2012)—Two people died and three were injured after gunmen opened fire at a family gathering in South Texas in what appeared to be a targeted attack.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Capt. Norberto Leal told The McAllen Monitor that possibly two gunmen wearing masks or hooded sweatshirts approached the homeowner and started shooting Sunday evening.

Afterward they fled in a red SUV, which was found abandoned Sunday.

Leal said all the victims appeared to be related.

The homeowner was among those who were shot.

Sheriff Lupe Trevino said it appeared to be a planned hit because the gunmen went straight for the homeowner.

The area near McAllen is a mix of rural pastures and suburban homes known for a concentration of taquerias near where the shooting occurred.
