KILLEEN (August 27, 2012)- Killeen police Monday identified the victim of the city's seventh murder of 2012 as Jose Luis Mateo, 38.
He was shot to death Sunday during a fight with his wife while the couple’s 9-year-old son was in the home.
His wife, Vilmarie Mateo, 36, was charged with murder Monday.
She remained in the Killeen City Jail, but will be transferred to the Bell County Jail later in the day, police said.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance with shots fired just before 4 p.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of Wiley Drive in Killeen.
When they arrived, police found Mateo dead inside the home.
Vilmarie Mateo, who was at the home at the time of the shooting, was taken into custody, police said.
Police didn’t say whether the couple’s son witnessed the shooting, but said he was placed with other family members.
