Officers found the shooting victim after responding at around 3:20 p.m. to a report of gunfire in the parking lot of Handy Stop Grocery at 426 North Gilmer St. .

It appears the victim was in the parking lot when the gunman approached him.

The two got into an argument, during which the suspect pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The victim ran a short distance before collapsing and the gunman escaped.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

The man for whom officers are looking is black, has short hair, stands between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, weighs from 150 to 160 pounds and was wearing a dark blue or black shirt and black pants.

It’s not clear whether he escaped on foot or in a vehicle.

Parts of North Gilmer Street and Adams Avenue were closed to traffic in the area of the store.

Investigators think the shooting may be related to a shooting Wednesday night at a nearby apartment complex in the 500 block of Wyoming that left two men seriously injured.

The two victims of that shooting remain in the hospital.
