WACO (July 30, 2012)--Two people were arrested early Monday morning following a short chase after officers heard gunfire in a local neighborhood and went to investigate.
Renard Glen Vaughn, 32, was ordered held Monday morning in the McLennan County Jail on bonds totaling $12,500, charged with discharge of a firearm, evading arrest and felon in possession of a firearm.
Keaira Cole, 23, was ordered held on a $5,000 bond, charged with evading arrest.
Officers patrolling in the area of Valley Mills Drive and Sanger Avenue heard at least one gunshot just after 2 a.m. Monday, Waco police Officer Steve Anderson said.
Residents reported that two men were arguing in the area of Sanger and Bowden Street and said that one of the men fired at least one shot in the air during the argument.
The witnesses told officers the man who fired the shots got into a Lincoln Town Car and sped away from the scene.
Officers spotted the Lincoln a short time later at Lake Air Drive and Tennyson Drive and after a short, slow- speed chase, stopped it.
The man in the passenger seat jumped out and tried to run, but was quickly captured.
The woman who was driving was also arrested.
Officers recovered a .40-caliber handgun and two shell casings from inside the Lincoln.
