WACO (April 18, 2014) Scores of Waco-area residents reported a strong natural gas odor in the air Friday, but so far the source of the smell has proved elusive.
Atmos Energy alone received more than 160 calls about the odor Friday, and area police and fire departments also fielded calls.
Atmos is investigating, Public Affairs Manager Michael Street said, but so far has not found any evidence of a natural gas leak.
He said the company suspects the source of the odor was something that was brought into the area by rail or on Interstate 35.
He said any residents who smell a natural gas odor should call Atmos, however.
The company’s emergency number is 1-866-322-8667.
