Special Needs Student Dies After Medical Emergency At Local School

Waco High School (file)

WACO (December 9, 2011)—A special needs student described as “medically fragile” died Friday at a local hospital after an undisclosed medical emergency at Waco High School, Principal Alfredo M. Loredo said in a letter sent home to parents.

The school was locked down shortly after 9 a.m. until around 9:45 a.m. Friday to ensure no one was in hallways as paramedics arrived, the letter said.

Because of the effect the death could have on students and staff who regularly interact with medically fragile special needs classmates, the letter said, extra counselors were made available Friday.

A district spokesman declined to release further details Friday afternoon.
