Squatters Move Into Fort Hood Family's Home; Sell Personal Items

CLEVELAND (January 31, 2012) - Staff Sergeant Samuel Burbank and his wife Hollie feel devastated and violated after squatters took over their home and sold off family possessions.

"There's just no words to say because you can't replace that stuff," said Hollie Burbank.

Authorities say two people on parole for drug charges broke into the Burbank's home in Liberty County, about an hour north of Houston, while he was stationed at Fort Hood.

"This is certainly at the top of my list of deplorable criminal activity," Captain Rex Evans of the Liberty County Sheriff's Office said.

Johnny Wayne Bell, 47, and Faye Lisa Bailey, 30, were arrested Tuesday morning and accused of removing items from the house, selling them in a yard sale, and even giving away some possessions for free.

"What they might have thought was something to just give away for free was something that has sentimental value to me and my family," said Burbank.

Investigators found a substantial amount of methamphetamine and needles in the home.

Officials helped gather some of the couple's possessions from the yard, but say it's unlikely items that were sold off or given away for free will be returned.

The Burbanks will visit the home on Friday to see what is missing.
