Student Charged In Stabbing Spree On Texas Campus; 5 Still Hospitalized

HOUSTON (AP) –Dylan Quick, 20, the student charged in the stabbing spree on the Lone Star Community College System campus in Cypress that left 14 injured, was held without bond Wednesday, charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

More than a dozen people were wounded, some seriously, in the attack Tuesday.

He faces a court appearance Thursday.

Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said Quick indicated he had been planning the attack for some time, but provided no other details about the reasons for the attack, saying an investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile the five victims who remained in the hospital Wednesday were all listed in good condition, including two who were in critical condition Tuesday, said Kathryn Klein with the Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute.

Six patients were treated and released Tuesday from North Cypress Medical Center.

Another victim who was transported to Memorial Hermann was treated and released.

Emergency officials said several injured people declined treatment at the scene.

Investigators say Quick used a razor utility knife to attack people at random in a building-to-building rampage.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says Quick gave a voluntary statement in which he said he has had fantasies of stabbing people to death since he was a child.

Neighbors described Quick as a shy young man who took out the trash and gardened with his parents.

Authorities were seen leaving Quick's parents' home with two brown paper bags.

Classes resumed at the college Wednesday.

Lone Star spokesman Jed T. Young said counselors will be available to talk with students and employees and will also visit the classes of those students who were victims of the rampage, during which witnesses said the man ran through the campus, slashing at random.

In January a shooting on another Lone Star College campus 20 miles north of downtown Houston left three people wounded.

One of the victims was a maintenance man who was caught in the crossfire.

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident, one of whom was wounded in the shooting.
